Olwyn is the owner and clinical director of Learning to Shine. She has over 40 years’ experience as an Occupational Therapist, with the last 25 years dedicated to working with children. Olwyn has training in a multitude of areas related to paediatric occupational therapy and has adopted an eclectic approach to providing a clinic that combines a broad and diverse range of therapy interventions. This allows for a holistic approach to treatment that individually tailors a program to best meet the needs of each child and their family.
Olwyn graduated from Cumberland College of Health Sciences in 1980 with a Bachelor of Applied Sciences in Occupational Therapy. Her paediatric career began in the Southern Highlands working in a variety of different settings, including early intervention, public health settings, schools and private practice. She has specialised in the field of sensory processing disorders, extending her training in both theory and practice. Olwyn’s desire is to help every child feel good about themselves, supporting them to better face the challenges in their lives and develop their skills by learning to shine. |
Meet Jodie.
Jodie has been on our team since 2022, having returned to work after spending quality time with her 3 young children before they entered school. Jodie came to LTS with experience as an OT in a variety of different fields. Jodie has demonstrated a passion for working with children and has expanded the services we offer with a particular interest in developing the Alert Program and running small groups. I know how much the children love her as I often hear from parents regarding the connection she has made with them. Jodie sees kids at the clinic as well as schools and preschools. Her involvement with school programs has seen an increase in the demand for services within that environment. Jodie has a beautiful quiet nature; always going the extra mile and is dependable on all levels. When she doesn’t have her OT hat on, she loves running for exercise, camping and hosting games nights with family and friends. Jodie's passion for OT stemmed from her love to be able to help people reach their full potential in many different settings. |
Meet Lyndel.
Lyndel also joined our clinic in 2022 soon after moving to the Southern Highlands with her husband and children to live. Lyndel is an amazing mum to 4 children of her own and understands the challenges with running a busy household. Lyndel graduated from university in 2005 with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy, therefore having 19 years of varied experience under her belt! She has worked in a variety of clinical areas including a large teaching hospital, acute care and community health and is passionate about continuing to grow and learn as a therapist. I value Lyndel as she is a team player and loves collaborating with other healthcare providers and clients to creatively problem solve, reach independence, and have lots of fun along the way. When she isn’t working with our little ones, she is busy with her own children, keeping fit and engaging in many other community activities. Lyndel loves spending time with family and friends and always enjoys a good coffee with others. |
Meet Wendy
Wendy joined our team in 2023. Wendy came to us as a senior OT with a wealth of knowledge and experience (35 year’s experience) working in many fields of OT work, but with a desire to expand her experience working with children. Wendy moved to the Southern Highlands in recent years and is keen to work with the families and children we meet, helping them reach their full potential. Wendy loves that she can help clients achieve their goals through play and having fun. When you don’t see Wendy at the studio, she is most likely in the garden or playing piano. As well as this Wendy also loves spending valuable time with her children + grandchildren continuing to help them grow throughout life. |
Meet Vanessa.
Vanessa has worked for many years in the disability sector as a support worker and completed her studies to become an Allied Health Assistant in 2021. Vanessa completed her clinical work and placement with us whilst studying her Cert IV in Allied Health Assistant and joined our team at the beginning of 2022, very quickly assuming responsible for many different support roles. She has been such as asset to the clinic, being able to use the many skills she has developed over years and fill other gaps when needed. Vanessa enjoys the opportunity to create learning situations that are play-based and fun. She is a very caring person who always strives to help others and willing to share the latest resource or information she has found. Her greatest reward at work is seeing the children find their strengths and strive to be the best they can be. Vanessa is an important part of our team with her many skills and versatility to fit into any role required of her. Her willingness to help others is always apparent as she will drop everything to be where help is needed. In recent times she has taken on the role of our Administration Officer. Vanessa is a ‘people person’ and loves to spend quality time with her friends and family. She also loves to garden, sing, and finds comfort at the beach. |
Meet Lucy.
We met Lucy last year (2023) while completing her Work Placement as a Year 12 student for her Cert 3 in Allied Health. She connected so well with the team and clients we offered her a position on our team, while enjoying a gap year. Lucy has a desire to study to become an OT in the future. She is currently working as an Allied Health Assistant and is still learning all the different roles held by a therapy assistant. We love having her on board and we are so glad she found us. Lucy is an avid hockey player, playing in both Sydney and Canberra in the women’s 1st grade competitions. As well as this she loves helping young hockey goers in achieving their goals. Lucy also works in the fitness industry as a coach, which clearly displays she has a passion to help people grow to be the best version of themselves. |
