Individualised Assessment: An initial assessment is carried out which includes clinical observation, a selection of formal and informal assessment tools, and discussion with parent and child. This is done to determine the child's areas of difficulty and a starting point for intervention ready to start their journey at Learning to Shine.
Clinic Therapy:At "Learning to Shine" we are fully equipped with a sensory gym and school based therapy room. Our sensory gym is set up with some of the latest sensory integrative equipment which is specialised and set up to meet your child's individual needs. Our therapists take a play-based, sensory integrative approach to therapy as we believe children are able to learn better with a multi-sensory approach. We pride ourselves on never having a "dull" session and are very proactive in making all sessions enjoyable and fun. Our clinic offers individual sessions as well as paired sessions to address therapy goals as well as work on social and emotional development. Sessions are usually approximately 1 hour however we also offer half hour sessions at request.
Preschool/School Therapy: Therapists can also provide therapy within the preschool or school environment. These can be conducted within the classroom or the child can be withdrawn from the class if more appropriate. By working within the classroom we are able to provide a more inclusive and integrated approach to therapy, whilst building on practical skills including social skills, and behaviour regulation. Working regularly in the school environment allows the child to develop transferrable skills within the school environment. It also enables the therapist to work with the teacher to improve the child's progress on a regular basis. Additional costs do occur for visits outside of the clinic.
School visits: Preschool/school visits can be arranged to allow the therapists to see the child in their school environment and interact with their teacher regarding the child's progress. Therapist is able to gain insight into the child within the school environment (often can be different to that of the clinic) and can provide intervention or suggestions to teacher or school to assist the child with their progress. Additional costs do occur for visits outside of the clinic.
Home Visits: We can also arrange a home visit where our therapists will come and see your child and family within the home. This is often a great way to see how the child is coping in their home environment. It also provides therapists with an insight into the child's life outside of the therapy sessions, and can provide a valuable resource to allow therapists to recommend particular intervention or suggestions to be implemented by family at home. Additional costs do occur for visits outside of the clinic.
Holiday Group Programs: School holidays is a great time to do some intensive work to enhance the child's confidence and skills. Various programs can be run during the holidays including social skills groups, and school readiness programs. To find out more information please discuss with our therapists.
